Two adult and one pediatric cardiology divisions offer the whole spectrum of advanced services, clinical and invasive.
There are three cardiac catheterization laboratories for the performance of digital arteriography, angioplasties, insertion of stents, etc. Also, for the performance of EP studies and the implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators and for arrhythmia ablation. This state of the art equipment is a donation of the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation.
The Department of Cardiology offers full diagnostic services, such as Doppler colored echocardiography with stress testing, transesophageal echocardiography, the use of Holter monitoring for ambulatory patients, pacemaker checking and reprogramming and conventional exercise testing. Two Research Laboratories, for Heart Failure and for Hypertension, are operated by the Department of Cardiology.
The Pediatric Cardiology Clinic offers a considerable range of diagnostic and interventional procedures including echocardiography, angioplasty (PTCA), valvuloplasty, stent implantation, electrophysiological studies and permanent pacemaker implantation.
The Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CCU) has eight beds and supports post myocardial infarction patients as well as those suffering from heart failure, a number of which may be candidates for transplantation. The Intermediate Coronary Intensive Care Unit has four beds for post-angiography monitoring.
